The Gorges of Tiberius
An uncontaminated place designed by water and rock
“’U Mirìcu”, a small canyon in the eastern area of the Madonie mountains
The magnificence of the Madonie Natural Park is revealed through paths of amazing beauty. The mountain ridge with its numerous springs reflects an authentic and little known Sicily, such as “’U Mirìcu”, a small canyon located in the eastern area, better known as “Gole di Tiberio”.
For its significant geomorphology, the gorges have been recognized as a Geopark and Unesco world heritage. The Gorges of Tiberius are located along the Pollina river a few miles from the sea, between the towns of San Mauro Castelverde and Castelbuono. The gorges take their name from the hamlet of Tiberio in the municipality of San Mauro, of noble origins but today almost deserted. An uncontaminated place designed by water and rock. Plunge into pristine and wild vegetation surrounded by a suggestive silence.
